The first skiers were from either Russia or Norway. They tied large animal bones or sticks of wood to their boots with leather straps. Over time, gear improved. Skis today are light and narrow to make turning easier and the cambered ski arches up in the middle to distribute weight more evenly. But some things never change. Skiers have always enjoyed a great workout in fresh air with breathtaking views and the crisp, cold exhilaration of winter speed.
